There’s a lot of talk about balanced life, but too many of us don’t practice it as often as we would like. Every ones picture of what the balanced life looks like is different. What is balanced for me may not be balanced for my neighbor. So this entry is mostly for myself and if anyone can glean a little wisdom or a few tips from it that is a bonus. In fact, maybe that is a part of balanced life for me and that is a good place to start. I would like to do something each day that improves someone else’s life. It may be even as small as a compliment or a kind word.
I think that sunshine and exercise are important for me. There is just something about sunshine that is good for my outlook. I don’t know what the magical formula for it is, I just know that when I spend at least an hour in the sun outdoors in the fresh air I feel better. The exercise piece can actually occur with the sunshine component if I decide to exercise outdoors. Kind of like a killing two birds with one stone thing (people prefer the politically correct term of “multi-tasking” I prefer killing two birds with one stone. It just sounds more macho)
It’s also important that I eat right. There are too many days that I skip breakfast. I think that that activity does not get the day started on the right foot. Then I wonder why I am listless later on in the day. I need to get proper nutrition in order to have a balanced day.
I need to spend some time with a friend. Friends are important. I need to involve my friends in my life even if it is over the phone or exchanging some e-mails. But preferably I think that there is no substitute for face time. So much is lost over the phone and even more is lost by e-mail. I need to tell my lover that I love her. Isn’t it important to tell our loved ones how much we love them? I think that there is something balanced and therapeutic about it.
