Acadia National Park is one of the most beautiful and picturesque natural places I could imagine. Every time I looked around I involuntary gasped admiring the striking views. The park is an unusual combination of ocean, evergreen forests, lakes and mountain scenery. Everywhere you go the ocean makes its presence felt, whether by sight, sound or smell.
The park is located in Maine, close to the famous resort town of Bar Harbor. Acadia includes more then 50 square miles of Mount Desert Island, the largest rock-based island on the Atlantic coast. The most spectacular views of Acadia National park are from the top of Cadillac Mountain. At 1,532 feet this mountain is the highest point along the North Atlantic seaboard.
French explorer Samuel de Champlain sighted Mount Desert Island in 1604 and gave it the name. Champlain’s visit to Acadia was 16 years before the Pilgrims landed at Plymouth Rock. First known as New France later this area became New England. The park is accessible to the public year round.
